A gold price calculator POS that prices by weight and karat

A gold price calculator POS works out a piece's price from its weight, karat and today's rate, so the counter never guesses. In GetJewelryPOS you enter the day's rate yourself, and each item is priced as weight times the rate for its karat, plus making charge per gram, flat or percentage, plus stone value. Grams, tola, masha, ratti and troy ounce are all supported.

  • Gold jewelers pricing by weight every day
  • South Asian, Gulf and Chinese-owned stores selling 21K and 22K
  • Stores replacing a calculator and a printed rate card

Definition

Making charge

Making charge is the labor and design cost added on top of a piece's metal value. Jewelers set it per gram, as a flat amount or as a percentage of the metal value. It differs by design and workshop, which is why two chains of identical weight and karat can carry different prices.

How gold pricing by weight works

  1. Step 1

    Set today's rate

Each morning enter your rate for the day, from your supplier, bullion dealer or sarafa association. The software uses the rate you enter; it does not fetch one.

  2. Step 2

    Weigh and select karat

Record the item's weight in grams or tola and choose its karat, such as 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K or 14K. Purity for each karat comes from the unit table.

  3. Step 3

    Add making and stones

Apply the making charge per gram, as a flat amount or as a percentage, and add any stone value. The counter sees each part of the price separately.

  4. Step 4

    Sell with a clear breakdown

The invoice can show weight, karat, rate, making charge and stones on separate lines. Customers see how the price was built, which ends most arguments at the counter.

Specification

What’s included in gold pricing by weight

  1. Grams and tola side by side

Use grams, tola, masha, ratti or troy ounce, with a secondary unit shown. One tola is 11.664 grams, so staff never convert by hand. Weights show to the precision your scale reads, and invoices can show both units.

  2. Karat purity table

Purity is set per karat: 24K, 22K, 21K, 18K and 14K, plus lower karats if you sell them. The rate for each karat follows from the pure-gold rate you enter.

  3. Three ways to charge making

Set making per gram, as a flat amount per piece or as a percentage of metal value. Different product groups can use different methods. Change the making method on a single sale when a customer negotiates.

  4. Stone value kept separate

Diamonds and colored stones are added as their own value, not hidden in the gold price. When rates move, the stones do not get repriced by accident. Stone details can sit on the item record beside the certificate fields.

  5. One rate for the whole store

When the rate changes, it changes for every counter. No more one counter selling on yesterday's rate while the next one has updated. Set the rate once in the morning and every weight-priced piece follows it.

  6. Breakdown on the receipt

Invoice layouts can show the price build-up line by line. That suits customers who check the sum on their phone before they pay. Layouts are set per location, so each shop can show the breakdown its customers expect.

United States

US stores usually tag finished pieces at a fixed price, but 22K and 24K gold in South Asian districts such as Hillcroft in Houston is often priced by weight; both work side by side. State sales tax is added at checkout.

Pakistan

Pakistani counters quote per tola using the daily sarafa rate; enter the rate and weigh in tola, masha and ratti while the invoice also shows grams.

What it doesn't do

There is no live gold feed. GetJewelryPOS never fetches or quotes a market rate; you enter your rate for the day and stay responsible for it. Figures on this page are worked examples, not prices. The software does not test purity, so hallmark or assay checks are yours. Card payments go through your own processor and terminal.

Gold pricing by weight: common questions

Does GetJewelryPOS show the live gold price?

No. You enter your rate for the day yourself. The software does not fetch or quote any market rate, so the price always reflects the rate you chose.

Can I price in tola instead of grams?

Yes. Weigh in tola, masha and ratti or in grams, and show the other as a secondary unit. One tola is 11.664 grams.

Which karats are supported?

24K, 22K, 21K, 18K and 14K are set up with their purity, and lower karats such as 10K and 9K are available. Purity values sit in one unit table.

How is making charge added?

Per gram, as a flat amount per piece or as a percentage of metal value. You can use different methods for different product groups.

Are stones priced separately from gold?

Yes. Stone value is its own line. A change in the gold rate updates the metal value only.

What happens when I change the rate?

The new rate applies to weight-priced items across the store. Sales already completed keep the price they were sold at.

Can the receipt show the price breakdown?

Yes. Invoice layouts can print weight, karat, rate, making charge and stone value on separate lines.

Can I sell fixed-price and weight-priced items together?

Yes. Branded watches or fixed-tag pieces sit beside weight-priced gold in the same sale.

Does it check gold purity?

No. Purity comes from the karat you select. Hallmarking, assay and testing remain the store's job.
