Jewelry POS software for American jewelry stores
GetJewelryPOS is hosted point-of-sale software built for the way US jewelers actually sell. Every diamond keeps its serial and report number, every repair has a job envelope and a promised date, and layaway balances sit on the customer's account. Gold is priced by gram or troy ounce at the rate you enter, and sales tax is set per location.
How jewelry is sold in United States
American jewelry retail runs on a few dense clusters and thousands of independent Main Street stores. New York's Diamond District on West 47th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues is where much of the country's loose-diamond and memo trade changes hands. Downtown Los Angeles has its own Jewelry District around Hill Street and Broadway, and Houston's Mahatma Gandhi District along Hillcroft Avenue serves South Asian families buying 22K bridal sets.
Metal is weighed in grams or pennyweight at the bench and quoted by the troy ounce on the bullion market, so a US store often uses all three. Pieces carry karat stamps such as 10K, 14K and 18K, while South Asian and Middle Eastern stores in the same cities sell 22K and 21K by the gram. Diamonds above a certain size usually travel with a lab report, and customers expect the report number on the receipt and the appraisal.
The year has a clear rhythm. Engagement season peaks between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and graduation bring a spring rush, and fall wedding season keeps the repair bench busy with sizing and remounts. Layaway is still common for engagement rings and holiday gifts, and many stores pair it with third-party financing. Sales tax is charged by state, county and city, so a multi-store owner can have different rates in each shop.

What does a jewelry POS need to do in United States?
- US-1
Serial and report number on every piece
A loose diamond, a bridal set and an estate watch each need their own record. Store the lab, report number, carat, color, clarity and cut in custom fields, scan the tag at the counter, and the certificate stays tied to the sale and the customer.

Repair envelopes that do not get lost
Sizing, prong retipping and watch batteries fill the bench. Each repair gets a job sheet with intake condition, promised date and technician, a printed envelope tag, status messages by text or email, and a repair invoice when the customer collects.
Related feature - US-3
Layaway for rings and holiday gifts
Take a deposit, reserve the piece, and record each partial payment with its own receipt. The balance due shows on the sale and the customer account, and the overdue report tells you who to call before the holiday rush.
Related feature - US-4
Sales tax per shop
Owners with stores in more than one county or state set a tax rate or tax group per location. Receipts show tax on its own line, and the tax report splits it by shop for your accountant's filing.

Tight controls on high-value stock
Decide who can discount, void, see cost or edit prices. Record tray and case positions, count stock with reasons for every adjustment, open and close the register with counts, and keep an audit trail of every sale and edit.

Jewelry POS in United States: questions
Does GetJewelryPOS work for independent jewelry stores in the US?
Yes. It is hosted software you sign up for online, so a single-counter store or a group of shops can start the same day. It covers serialized items, repairs, layaway, gold pricing, custom orders and multi-store stock in every plan.
How is sales tax handled for US stores?
You set the tax rate or tax group for each location, and the POS adds it at checkout and prints it on the receipt. The software does not look up rates for you, so enter the rate your state and local authorities charge.
Can it price gold by the gram, pennyweight or troy ounce?
Yes. You enter today's rate yourself for each karat, and the price is weight times rate, plus making charge and stone value. Grams and troy ounces are built in, and you can add secondary units for how your bench weighs.
Does it handle layaway?
Yes. Sell with a deposit, record partial payments over time with a receipt for each, keep the item reserved until it is paid, and see due and overdue balances in reports. Reminders can go out by SMS or email.
Can I store GIA or IGI report numbers?
Yes. Each piece can carry the lab name, report number, carat, color, clarity and cut in custom fields. Search by serial or report number, and the certificate details stay linked to the sale and the customer record.
Do you process card payments?
No. GetJewelryPOS works with your card processor and card terminal. You keep your merchant account and rates, and the POS records the card payment against the sale.
Can I take memo goods into stock?
Yes. Record memo pieces from a supplier as stock with their own serials and notes, so you know what is on consignment, where it sits in the case, and what has sold. Return or purchase them through the purchases and supplier records.
Is there an online store?
Yes. When you add products, an online store is generated from your catalogue with prices, photos and stock, included in every plan. A managed custom website is available as an upgrade.
Can staff use the POS in Spanish?
Yes. Receipts and screen text can be translated and edited, so a counter can run in English and print receipts in Spanish or another language your customers read.
