Jewellery POS software for Pakistan's sarafa trade
GetJewelryPOS is hosted point-of-sale software for Pakistani jewellers, from a single counter in a sarafa bazaar to a family business with three shops. It weighs in tola, masha and ratti as well as grams, prices each piece from the rate you enter, adds making charges and stone value, takes old gold in exchange and prints receipts in Urdu.
How jewelry is sold in Pakistan
Gold in Pakistan is bought and quoted by the tola. One tola is 11.664 grams, divided into 12 masha of 8 ratti each, and customers still ask the price "per tola" even when the bill is printed in grams. Sarafa associations publish the day's rate for 24K and 22K, shops update their boards as it moves, and a sale shows weight, karat, the rate, the making charge (banwai) and any stone value.
The trade lives in sarafa bazaars. Karachi's jewellers cluster in the old city bazaars and in Saddar, with newer showrooms along Tariq Road. Lahore has the walled city's Sooha Bazaar near Kashmiri Bazaar and the Shah Alam area, plus showrooms in Liberty and the newer commercial areas. In the twin cities, Rawalpindi's Sarafa Bazaar is the old wholesale heart, and Islamabad's jewellers sit in the sector markets. Many shops are family businesses where the karigar works at the back bench.
Buying is driven by weddings. Families buy bridal sets months ahead, often in instalments, and the winter wedding season is the peak. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha bring gifting, and old gold exchange is part of almost every big sale: an old set is weighed, tested, deducted for purity and wastage, and set against a new one. Cash is still common, alongside bank transfer, Raast, JazzCash and Easypaisa.

What does a jewelry POS need to do in Pakistan?
- PK-1
Tola, masha and ratti
Weigh in grams, tola, masha and ratti, and switch between them on the item. Enter today's rate per tola or per gram for each karat, and the price is weight times rate, plus banwai and stone value, without a calculator.
Related feature - PK-2
Old gold exchange (purani gold)
Record the customer's old piece with weight, karat and your deduction, value it at the rate you set, and offset it against the new set. The exchange and the sale stay on one record, and the old gold shows in stock.
Related feature - PK-3
Instalments for bridal sets
Families often pay for a wedding set over months. Take a deposit, reserve the set, record every payment with a receipt, and see the balance on the customer account. Reminders go out before each due date.
Related feature - PK-4
Custom orders with the karigar
Most bridal pieces are made to order. Move each order from quotation to deposit to making to ready, with notes and photos, so the counter can tell a customer exactly where their set stands.
Related feature - PK-5
Urdu receipts and screens
Receipt text and translations are editable, so a counter can print in Urdu, English or both. Staff use the screens in the language they read most easily, and each shop can keep its own invoice layout.

Jewelry POS in Pakistan: questions
Does GetJewelryPOS weigh in tola?
Yes. Tola, masha and ratti are supported alongside grams, with one tola as 11.664 grams. You can price per tola or per gram for each karat.
Does it show the live sarafa rate?
No. The software does not fetch or quote a live gold rate. You enter today's rate for each karat when the market opens, and every item is priced from it until you change it.
Can it add making charges (banwai)?
Yes. Making charges can be per gram, a flat amount or a percentage, and stone value is added on top. The receipt shows weight, karat, rate, making charge and stones.
How does old gold exchange work?
Record the old piece as a purchase from the customer with its weight, karat and your deduction. Its value is offset against the new sale, and the old gold goes into stock.
Can customers pay in instalments?
Yes. Take a deposit, record each payment with its own receipt, keep the piece reserved, and track the balance on the customer account. Due and overdue reports show who to call.
Can I record JazzCash and Easypaisa payments?
Yes. Add them as payment methods, so each sale records how it was paid and the payment report splits cash, bank transfer, wallets and cards.
Are receipts available in Urdu?
Yes. Receipt and invoice text can be translated and edited, so you can print in Urdu, English or both.
What about sales tax?
You set the tax rates and groups your accountant advises, and receipts print the tax separately. The software does not decide rates for you, and the tax report totals what was charged.
Does it work if the internet drops?
GetJewelryPOS is hosted, so it needs a connection to sell. Many bazaar shops keep a mobile hotspot as a backup, and the mobile app can be used from a phone.
